The Beginning of the Sipnos Treasury

In Greek mythology the god Apollo punished the people of Sipnos for their greed and failure to send a tenth of their earnings to Delphi. He caused the mines to be flooded with seawater destroying a tenth of the rich gold and silver mines on the island of Sipnos. The city of Sipnos was built in the mountains of Delphi Greece around 525 BC to store offerings to Apollo. This early period saw the land of ancient rulers with characteristics similar to modern-day Turks or natural landscapes.

The stone sculptures of women supporting the columns on the front balcony are notable for being the first to be constructed entirely of marble on the Greek mainland and are adorned with exquisite carvings.

The Athenian treasury located within the Delphi archaeological site in Greece was built around 510–480 BC to store artifacts dedicated to the god Apollo.

The details of their clothing hairstyles and the postures of the goddesses are lifelike. Constructed from three types of marble from Sipnos Noxos and Paros they reflect the immense wealth of Sipnos in ancient times from its underground mining operations. The East Frieze of the building depicts scenes from the assembly or gathering of the ancient Greek gods who supported Troy such as Ares Aphrodite Artemis and Apollo. It is considered one of the earliest buildings in mainland Greece constructed entirely of marble decorated in the Ionic style and is notable for its bas-relief sculptures surrounding the building.
