The Hope of Prometheus Protector of Mankind
Prometheus a Titan in Greek mythology was the son of the Titan Iapetus. He was intelligent cunning and considered a farsighted god. He created and helped humanity by stealing fire from the heavens to sustain life which angered Zeus who punished him cruelly. This led to war among humans and a divine retribution against Prometheus. Zeus using a ploy punished Prometheus by chaining him and sending eagles to eat his immortal liver every night which would regenerate. Years later the Greek hero Heracles killed Zeus's eagles and freed Prometheus from this agonizing punishment.

Prometheus's battle took place on Mount Elbrus or Kazbek two peaks in the Caucasus Mountains. In ancient times the Greeks considered themselves barbarians. However Prometheus was also seen as a protector of mankind playing a significant role in ancient Greek mythology and fantasy literature. However the worship of Prometheus in antiquity and classical times reflects a pre-Hesiodian figure who blended good and evil in human life. Prometheus was punished for stealing fire from Olympus and giving it to mankind he was cursed by the Olympian gods to suffer eternal torment for his transgression.
The marble sculpture "Prometheus Bound and the Oceanids" 1879 by the German sculptor Eduard Müller depicts the Oceanids or sea-dwelling plant maidens who attempt to help and protect him from the eagle.

In antiquity he rebelled against the Olympian gods by stealing fire from them and giving it to humanity in the form of technology knowledge and civilization. The worship of Prometheus in classical Greek time reflects a figure who blended good and evil in human life. Prometheus was bound to a rock and an eagle a symbol of Zeus was sent to devour his liver continuing the cycle of legend. Eventually Prometheus was freed by the hero Heracles. Although Prometheus plays a significant role in mythology and literature.

Hephaestus the god of craftsmanship and fire mixed earth and water at the will of Zeus. In Greek mythology Pandora was a woman created as a plan to punish humanity and avenge Prometheus's theft of magical fire. Pandora was sent to earth in exchange for possession of the fire and thus became the source of the jar that contained all evil. Pandora opened the jar given to her by the gods causing sickness suffering and evil to spread throughout the world. The only thing that remained at the bottom of the jar the moment she closed the lid was "hope" which gave humanity the strength to face their suffering.
